offensive philosophy

Our Offensive Philosophy begins with an understanding that all aspects of our team are an extension of the Trust, Attitude, and Effort Foundation.  From that we will develop an attitude on offense that it is not possible to stop us if we simply execute.  A trust and faith in what the coaches call, and each other’s performance, is vital for our offensive success.  We are not able to be successful unless we have eleven guys that all believe in each other, and believe that each one of them is as important as the next.  The following are a few items that will define our offensive attack.

Do What Personnel Dictates

We will base our offensive attack around the strengths of our offensive players.  This is not to say that we will make wholesale changes in our style.  We will however adjust the type of plays we focus on based on the abilities of the players.  If we have a running quarterback we will then utilize his abilities.  If we have an outstanding passer we will utilize his abilities.    We will not be in the practice of putting a square peg in the round hole.

Attack with Speed and Tempo

We will use a verity of speeds and tempos to run our opponents off the field.  We will have an attitude that we can out work anyone.  This means that we will be able to go 48 minutes of all out football each and every night.  Because of our preparation we will be able to get into all of our tempos, formations, and plays very quickly.  This also forces a defense to be very generic to play against.  Offense is about rhythm and it is important for our kids on offense to understand the need to generate a rhythm.

Take Care of the Football

We will protect the football. It does not matter if we are catching, running, or throwing the football we need to protect the ball.  We can make the greatest play in the history of football, but if it ends with us turning over the ball it is worthless.  Teams that take care of the football win games.  Every player in the program will learn to take care of the football.

Create Individual Matchups

We will use multiple formations, shifts, and motions to help create our preferred matchups.  This can be to gain a leverage advantage in the run game, momentum on a screen, or an uncovered receiver in the pass game.  While a portion of it will be “window dressing” to create confusion among the defense, it will also allow us to control the game.

Finish

We will finish every play to the echo of the whistle.  A key to our success will be players making the extra block down field that other teams do not make.
